This is London (London, England, UK), "Five Britons killed in Malawi safari plane crash named"
Five British tourists killed when their sightseeing plane crashed in Malawi have been named. Six people - including the Canadian pilot - were killed when the Cessna plane came down as it travelled from the Malawi capital Lilongwe to the north of the African country at the weekend.
It is believed the five British tourists were part of a wider group of keen cyclists and squash players on holiday together. Among the dead were sales director Nigel Clout, 53, a father of two daughters in their 20s. Mr Clout was from Hemel Hempstead, Herts. Also killed were Daniel Turnberg, aged 37 from north London, Dawn Rollins, 44, from Norwich, along with Colin Smith and David Murrell, both 45.
Mr Clout's brother, who did not give his name, said: "There were about 12 guys on a cycling holiday, something they do quite often. Five went in an airplane to take some pictures of the animals. They never returned." An investigation has been launched into the cause of the crash, which reportedly happened in bad weather. The plane is understood to have been operated by Nyika Safari Company which offers access to two reserves in the remote north of the country - Nyika National Park and Vwaza Marsh Game Reserve. Shadreck Chibinga, duty air traffic controller at Lilongwe International Airport, said the plane came down between 2pm and 2.30pm on Saturday in a river valley. It had set of for a 30-minute tour of the Rumphi district. "We do not know the cause of the crash. It was in a very difficult place for rescuers. It is a very remote area," he said.
