AngolaPress (Angola), "Families of Kenya Airways Cameroon plane crash victims arrive in Douala"
Families of 16 out of 114 victims of the Kenya Airways plane that crashed last Saturday near Douala arrived here Thursday night. "We are in Douala to individually confirm the death of our people, and possibly to return home with their remains," said an Ivorian woman who lost her husband in the crash.
Upon their arrival, the family members from various nationalities were directed to the inquiry unit based at the Bonanjo Municipal Circle, a residential Douala neighbourhood, for counselling and psychological support. "Of course these people are trying to boost our moral, but we rather need to see our people who have perished in the crash. We were told to wait until the bodies are identified using DNA tests," said a Malian who lost his kin in the crash. "We still don't know when we could collect the remains of our loved ones, and we cant tell when we expect to leave Cameroon," said an Ivorian. "We were told we could visit the site of the crash in the next few days. But we don't know when. The Kenyans told us that the conditions in which the bodies are kept in the mortuary are appalling," said a Nigeria woman whose husband is believed to have perished in the crash.
The Kenya Airways Boeing 737, on its way from Abidjan, Cote d`Ivoire to Nairobi, Kenya, via Douala, crashed into swampland near the Cameroonian commercial capital on Friday, killing all the 114 passengers on board.
