Richmond and Twickenham Times (UK), "Cameroon Kenya Air Plane crash kills ex-Times reporter"
A former Brentford, Chiswick and Isleworth reporter has been killed after his plane came down in dense African rainforest. Anthony Mitchell, who worked on the Richmond and Twickenham Times, was among 114 people on board the Kenya Airlines jet when it crashed on Saturday. Four other Britons, all aid workers, also died in the accident.
Rescuers said the heavy rain and thick forest made rescue conditions near impossible. After leaving the Richmond and Twickenham Times in 1995, Mitchell joined the Daily Express and from there moved to Associated Press where he worked as a foreign correspondent, covering East Africa. He was a philosphy and politics graduate of York University. He was said to be a fearless journalist, uncovering some of the most controversial issues in the region, often to the discomfort of Ethiopian authorities.
