McDonnell Douglas 600N Helicopter Crash in Antalya, Turkey
Summary of Accident
On July 19, 2006, a Turkish police helicopter crashed into the center of the resort city of Antalya on Turkey’s Mediterranean coast. All five of the top level officers onboard for a traffic-monitoring mission were killed, while a passerby on the ground was injured.
Accident Investigation
Early reports indicate mechanical problems that may have occurred mid-air. It is believed that the pilot was attempting to make an emergency landing in the Ataturk Stadium just before the helicopter crashed into a street.
